On Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, the miraculous season of the youngest team that Coach Brent West had ever fielded ended in a gut wrenching 36 to 35 loss to the Refugio Bobcats in the 2A-2 State Finals. On Saturday, Dec 17, 2011, that game was in the past and preparation began for the 2012-13 football season with a core group of young veterans. Football is a year round occupation for the coaches and players. Most of the football players participate in other sports such as basketball, track, baseball and golf. Training in the weight room is a year round requirement. The summer off season workouts are rigorous, with hard work in the weight room, running and drills. Two a day workouts began Aug. 6th with a tough schedule of conditioning, drills, running offensive plays, playing defense. The coaches are constantly evaluating players to get the right player in the right position that will help this team win. The players are competing for their spots on the roster. The Loboes practice hard and the coaches set tough standards for these young men. It all pays off with victories in the fall. On Thursday Aug, 23, 2012, the Albany scrimmage ended and the 2012-13 season begins. Everything that could be done in the time frame and constraints of the UIL rules has been done by the coaches and players. The regular season is here now and they are ready to play. On Friday August 31, 2012, Coach Brad Bowden brings the Early Longhorns to Chesley Field for the opening game of the season. They had a disappointing 2W – 8L season last year. Coach Bowden and his team have worked hard to improve their team, so don’t take them lightly. You can ignore the so called state rankings. Games are not won in the newspapers but on the field of play. The Loboes games will be broadcast on FM 98.1, an ESPN affiliate in Abilene, thanks to the effort of Lee Lewis and Kenneth Preston of Cisco. If you are unable to attend the game, please tune in for the broadcast. If you want to hear the play by play broadcast while you are at the game, tune in with your MP3 player. GO LOBOES
